Kids Can Create A Life-Size Portrait At Morris Museum This Weekend

This week kids will have the opportunity to create life-size portraits of themselves at the Morris Museum. It is geared towards the ages of toddlers to tweens. This event will take place on April 4 from 4 pm until 5 pm. The child will be able to use paints, brushes, and their imagination to create their self-portrait. This activity comes from one of the new exhibitions at the museum titled As Others See Us / As We See Ourselves: Artists’ Self-Portraits from the Permanent Collection. The event is free for members of the museum and $5 for non-members. About the Exhibit: Again this is an activity based on a collection made up of artist's self-portraits. The Morris Museum has many collections that range from folk art to photography, and to studio art glass just to name a few, but now it's time to explore a collection made up of artist's self-portraits. It is always interesting to see how people view themselves, even more so for those who are artists. Each painting represents something more than just a portrait, but shows off the artist's abilities and through all that reveals something meaningful about the person. This exhibit opened on January 20 and will end June 30. Current Exhibitions Going on at The Morris Museum: Apokalupsis: An Uncovering: The Artwork of Joseph H. Sulkowski That exhibit started March 1 and will run until the end of this month on April 28. A Lasting Legacy: Paintings by Jim Lyle This exhibit began March 16 and will be available until June 24. Upcoming Events at Morris Museum: There are several other events the museum will be hosting this week alone. Every Friday they show an old film and this week they will be showing Best in Show, a 2000 film, at the SRP Auditorium located at the museum. This Sunday, April 7, is all about the pups. Morris Museum will be hosting a Pet Pop-Up from 1 pm until 4 pm and during that time, there will also be another event happening where you can craft your paw-themed creations and meet adorable therapy dogs for cuddles.
